Diversifying the Products
New Fuels
A more efficient, better performing, lower consumption fuel. That is our goal. That is how we develop the Podium gasoline and diesel, for example. Each new product undergoes a series of assessments and testing before reaching the service stations.
Allied to the interest of improving the quality of our fuel, we are always attentive to the environmental legislation. We have made investments in all refineries in order to produce gasoline and diesel to meet future requirements.
And we have the same concern with biofuels. Our tests compare Biodiesel to traditional fuel in order for us to make sure the final product that is in compliance with the appropriate lubricability and quality levels.
Green Fuel
Biofuels are already a reality. Ethanol and biodiesel are available at the pumps of our service stations. But new forms continue being researched. We are studying the use of biomass and residues to produce energy. Imagine bacteria acting on sugar cane residues. Chemical reactions turn material that was once garbage into ethanol.
We invest in research to design technologies that ensure global leadership in biofuel production.
Petrochemicals
Polymers are very valuable and are used to make packages, films, automotive components and appliances, for example. Our research seeks to enhance basic petrochemicals production and to transform these products in to polymers.
We have developed solutions that increase the value of the products by including biomass in the process and designed new ways to generate basic, intermediary, and differentiated petrochemicals. We also use new techniques to achieve energetic optimization for nitrogenated fertilizers, such as urea.
Natural Gas
Gas has secured an increasingly strong position in the energy matrix. The challenge is to seek ways to ensure its efficiency and to find solutions to bring this cleaner source of energy from ever so much more distant wells.
Traditional transportation was made over pipelines. But with the pre-salt discovery, distances increased exponentially. So far away from the coast and at such huge depths. How can this gas be brought to shore? That is where vessels come into the picture.
To optimize transportation capacity, we have adopted several solutions, such as, among others, liquefying, compressing or transforming gas into some other form of energy and transporting it over submarine cables to the mainland.
Refining Park Modernization
With the investments in new units and in technology, we have qualified our refining park to run both with heavy oil and with light oil, whether coming from the pre-salt or imported. Always in compliance with the environmental legislation and with market trends.
As a result, we made gasoline and diesel quality improvements and progressed in the fields of biofuels, synthetic oils, and petrochemical products, for example.
More and Better
In the search for better products and processes, we research new solutions to ensure more reliability, profitability and productivity for our refineries.
We developed approaches to analyze project risk and revisited processes to optimize our refining park. When we implement the solution, we are already in search of novelties.
