Vânia Santiago says: I'm an optimist. Considering we can solve this water problem, and considering we have technology to do the treatment and resources invested in it, I believe it is important to take... let's say, the proper measures.
Daniel Machado says: We currently have eight Green Build buildings in Brazil, the first of many Petrobras will have.
Paulo Henrique Reis says: From conception, it was built with a water reuse system. We have been using this system ever since it was inaugurated.
Vânia Santiago says: The beginning of our activities in the reuse area was a strong milestone when we had major changes at the company regarding the environmental issue.
Daniel Machado says: The green build concept is based on sustainability and eco-efficiency in a building. Making the best use of power and water.
Paulo Henrique Reis says: We were able to get about forty percent of the water consumed in this building coming from rainwater or from reusing water coming from restroom taps.
Vânia Santiago says: Water is extremely important, particularly in the refining process. It comes into direct contact with the oil and its derivatives. Both in the desalination, which is the salt-removing process, and in rinsing the gases that are produced. Water is contaminated in this application. It is that way that effluents are generated. And effluent water reuse is the key, as it is precisely this contaminated water that we treat to the point to which it can be reused for the same processes.
Daniel Machado says: Another interesting fact in the building is that it makes better use of natural lighting. The building is equipped with a skylight that allows sunlight to seep inside, allowing for less energy consumption.
Vânia Santiago says: There are refineries that are making partial reuse, while others full reuse, in other words, they are reusing all of the effluents that are generated.
Paulo Henrique Reis says: All of this water that we do not consume here, since we treat rainwater and because we reuse water, we revert to the common good.
Vânia Santiago says: This will become a reference, I believe. We are focusing much more than other companies we are aware of on reusing water. But we still have a lot of challenges to face, you know?
Daniel Machado says: The trend is to minimize to the maximum possible extent all of the impact you yourself are having on the environment.
Vânia Santiago says: All of this scenario that has been drawn up about problems we may have with water, I believe we have technology to solve. To make sure our children and grandchildren will not face water shortages.
