More than supporting initiatives nationwide, the public selections give us the chance to have direct contact with the people who undertake actions that can transform realities.
Our performance, which has the social responsibility brand on it, is closely tied to integrated growth and profitability. And this translates into numbers: in 2010 alone we invested R$ 707.9 million in 1,700 social, environmental, sporting, and cultural projects.
These are initiatives such as the Araçuaí boys, in the Jequitinhonha Valley (state of Minas Gerais), who learn how to read and write baking cookies; like the National Circus School, which preserves and transmits the millennial traditional of this art; or like the Iguatu Project, which teaches conscientious water resource management to Paraná families.
In a democratic, transparent manner, the public selections make support for actions as important as those described above feasible. Via public notices, registration is open for projects all over the country. Commissions formed by civil society and government representatives, in addition to Petrobras professionals, analyze and pick the most consistent initiatives.
