Culture is a people's most valuable asset. Through music, theater, dance, architecture and so many other cultural manifestations, we express our thoughts and build several forms of knowledge.
Our commitment to Culture is underpinned by these pillars, and it extends well beyond the Company's visibility or even its support for projects most people are already aware of. We focus on ensuring the population's access to cultural assets and on affirming the Brazilian identity.
This largely diverse and wide-ranging way of thinking about Culture is only possible because we do not separate our
businesses' profitability from our socioenvironmental commitment: they walk hand-in-hand.
Everything started back in the 1980's, when we stared our first cultural endorsements. And we never stopped after that. In the 1990's, we played a fundamental role in the retaking of Brazilian cinema, of which we are great partners yet today. In 2001, we rolled-out our first national public project selection.

The Petrobras Cultural Program, Brazil's biggest sponsorship program, has existed since 2003, and it stands out not only for democratizing, but for its transparency in public selections. Just for you to have an idea of the volume of our actions, the latest edition of the Program, held in 2008, earmarked R$42 million for public project selections.
This integrated, ongoing work bore outstanding fruit. We are acknowledged as the company that most supports Culture in Brazil, and we invest
in actions aimed at producing, disseminating, and circulating cultural assets. Additionally, we are present by forming new audiences, and are in the memory and in the reflection on the Brazilian culture and thought.
We have a 360o view on culture: we preserve the past, mark the present, and invest in the future. This is how Petrobras does things.
