The drilling of the first well in ultra-deep Sergipe-Alagoas Basin waters identified the presence of oil of quality similar to those bearing oil in deep Campos Basin waters. This is a new exploratory frontier.
We have confirmed the existence of large accumulations in the more distant portions of this basin, with volumes above those found in the Guaricema and Dourado fields, in shallow waters. The data obtained in our tests indicate the presence of light oil.
The well, known as Barra, is located at a depth of 2,341 meters, at about 58 km off the coast of the state of Sergipe. We operate the block in a consortium with IBV-Brazil (Petrobras, operator: 60%).
We tested the deposits in an accumulation developed in an area of approximately 70 square kilometers. The closest analogue field, Piranema, is 90 km away. Samples will continue being collected through this well, which is still being drilled, from older and deeper reservoirs.
With the information obtained so far, we can attest the discovery of a new oil province in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. After the drilling has been completed, we will continue with the activities and investments drilling other wildcat wells and preparing the Discovery Assessment Plan to be defined by the National Petroleum Agency.
