We have been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the sixth consecutive year. As the top-ranking global yardstick for sustainability, the DJSI scrutinizes the economic, social, and environmental performance of over 300 companies. The results for 2011 were announced on Thursday (9/8). This year’s listing consolidates Petrobras’ standing as one of the best managed companies in the world. With this sixth consecutive listing, our sustainability-related management practices must rank among the best in the world.
The new listing features 342 corporations from 30 countries operating across 57 different sectors of industry. Assessments based on aspects such as corporate governance, actions aimed at mitigating climate change, supplier standards, labor practices, management of corporate impact on biodiversity and water resources, corporate citizenship, impacts on communities and eco-efficiency. Based on the assessment criteria, we showed improvement in economic and social assessments and maintained our track record on environmental issues. Also worth noting is the fact that for the fifth time Petrobras achieved full marks for Transparency.
Within the oil and gas sector, Petrobras significantly improved its performance for refining/clean fuels, with an assessment well above the sector average, achieved as a result of investments in refining to improve the quality of the fuels produced. Assessments of other requirements were also above average, including environment policy, social impacts on communities, biodiversity, climate strategy and information supplied on corporate sustainability initiatives and the corresponding effect on generating value for shareholders.
The new listing features 342 corporations from 30 countries operating across 57 different sectors of industry, with 23 companies from the oil and gas sector. At present, more than US$ 8 billion are invested in funds based exclusively on DJSI companies.
